The rain hammered against the attic window, each drop a relentless beat against her frayed nerves. Clara had locked herself away, seeking refuge from the increasingly unsettling situation.

She’d been helping her sister, Jenna, babysit her daughter, Maisie. Maisie had started drawing this unsettling creature. A figure with a gaping, toothy grin and long, spindly fingers that could easily grab.

It was the same character from Clara’s own youth. She remembered the nights of hiding beneath the covers, heart pounding in her chest, convinced the figure was lurking in the shadows. The memory was clear in her mind, and suddenly, she found herself breathing rapidly.
